SRJC Student Awarded 2015 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarship

January 6, 2015 — Alisse Galde, a student at Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC), has been selected to receive a $1,000 scholarship from Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society as a 2015 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholar. This scholarship is designed to provide new Phi Theta Kappa members with financial resources to help defray educational expenses while enrolled in associate degree programs while also encouraging participation in Phi Theta Kappa Society programs. Galde is one of 207 Phi Theta Kappa members awarded the 2015 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise scholarship. Chosen from more than 1,100 applications worldwide.

Nov.21: Big Day for SRJC Bear Cubs Soccer and Football

November 18, 2015 — This Saturday, November 21, will be a day filled with competition, rivalry, and award-winning athleticism from SRJC's women’s soccer, men’s soccer, and football teams. Bear Cubs soccer teams will undergo the first round of the Nor Cal Soccer Playoffs. At 11:00 a.m., in women’s soccer, the SRJC Bear Cubs will face off against the Ohlone College Renegades. At 2:00 p.m., in men’s soccer, the Bear Cubs will play the Mendocino College Eagles. At 5:00 p.m., the men’s football team will host the Modesto Junior College Pirates in the North State Bowl, sponsored by Burch & Coutré.All games will take place at SRJC’s Santa Rosa campus. Tickets will be $12 for adults and $8 for kids (under 12), seniors, and students.

SRJC Jazz Combos, December 2

November 18, 2015 —The SRJC Jazz Combos, directed by Bennett Friedman, will present their fall concert on Wednesday, December 2 at 7:30 p.m. The performance will take place in Newman Auditorium, found in Emeritus Hall, at SRJC’s Santa Rosa campus. The concert will feature trombonist John Gove. He has played with artists such as Terrence Blanchard, Maria Schneider, the Mingus Dynasty Orchestra, Barbara Streisand, Peter Gabriel, and Tony Bennett with Lady Gaga. Daily parking permits are required and available on campus lots for $4. Concert admission is $5. Tickets will only be available at the door. Proceeds of the event benefit the SRJC Foundation Jazz Studies Fund.

Photographer Matt Black to Speak & Feature Work at SRJC "Framing Migrant Labor" Exhibit

November 5, 2015 — The Robert F. Agrella Art Gallery presents a new exhibit entitled “Framing Migrant Labor” from November 12 to December 10. The exhibit will showcase “Clouds to Dust”, a collection of photo essays by the award-winning photographer Matt Black. In addition, works by Sonoma County photographers Morrie Camhi, Otto Hagel, Hansel Mieth and Ernie Lowe will provide a look back at migrant labor from the 1930s through the 1970s. There will be an opening reception for the artists on Monday, November 16, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Matt Black will present in lecture from noon to 1 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.
